Cave-in-Rock ferry back open

Posted: Updated:
CRITTENDEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

The Cave-In-Rock Ferry has resumed ferry service after winds dropped.

The ferry had stopped service due to high winds along the Ohio River at the ferry crossing.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the reason for the closing is a line of strong thunderstorms that was just to the west and south of the ferry crossing.

The ferry connects KY 91 with ILLINOIS Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County, Kentucky and Hardin County, Illinois.

The ferry normally operates from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. central time, 7 days a week.

The Cave-In-Rock Ferry is operated by an independent contractor with joint funding from KYTC and IDOT through a ferry authority.
