NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

In the Kansas City metro, businesses and nonprofit organizations are doing their part to help victims in Oklahoma.

The organization Care of Poor People in cooperation with Planet Aid of Kansas City was busy sending survival supplies and food to Moore, OK, on Saturday. They filled Planet Aid's warehouse in North Kansas City with bottles water, non-perishable food items, clothing, shoes, blankets and backpacks.

Bryan Thompson with Planet Aid said they collected close to 7,000 pounds of materials, but there's always a need for more.

"The two organizations that we're working with on the ground in Moore, OK, said the greatest need is cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items and water. Of course, along with that, is hygiene supplies and toiletries," he said. "Those are the things they really need right now."

Thompson said they've seen an outpouring from several communities, including Butler, MO, that sent items collected by schools and restaurants.

He said they will be at the warehouse, located at 1512 Taney Street, until 4 p.m. Saturday and people can drop off donations until that time.

Planet Aid is known for their large yellow bins that are placed all over Kansas City to collect clothes and shoes. They will also leave some of the large bins outside the warehouse and people can drop off items for Oklahoma in them all weekend long. Their trucks will be leaving Tuesday morning.

Nellie and Nico's Antique Mall teamed up with the Sky Zone trampoline park to do their part in helping Moore. Operation Giveback is also raising donations for the tornado victims.

The businesses are asking for hand towels, wash cloths and toothbrushes. People can take donations to 6495 Quivira Rd. in Shawnee, KS.
