MASSAC COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Governor Pat Quinn has announced a $2.1 million capital investment for maintenance and repair work on the Interstate 24 bridge over the Ohio River in Massac County.

"This project will help traffic flow and safety on this major southern Illinois interstate highway," Governor Quinn said. "It will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy."

The project involves repaving the Interstate 24 bridge and performing miscellaneous repairs to the structure. Halverson Construction Co., Inc. of Springfield was the lowest of three bidders at $2,154,994.

"The Interstate 24 bridge desperately needs these repairs and resurfacing, which will not only help to better serve the residents of Massac County, but is an investment that will help create jobs and put Southern Illinoisans back to work," said State Rep. Brandon Phelps (D-Harrisburg).

This project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which the governor says is supporting more than 439,000 jobs over six years.
