A fire gutted apartment units overnight in Hickman County, Kentucky. And, several disabled and elderly people have been displaced due to the blaze.

According to Hickman police, a fire broke out overnight at the Hickman Manor Apartments.

The apartment landlord, Julie Perez, says the blaze totally damaged four units along with smoke damage to at least two additional units. All of the residents, who are disabled and elderly, were evacuated.

Everyone is okay, but four people are displaced due to the fire. A cat also died in the fire.

"I came over the hill and pulled it into park and by the time I got out the roof was falling in over there," said resident Tricia Yates. "It was quite hectic out here last night. We had to open our doors and windows; we got smoke damage in our apartments here on the front."

Perez says the fire started in the kitchen of the back unit when the tenant was cooking. The fire then spread to the other units.

Several of the unit's roofs collapsed and the fire ruined most everything inside the four main units.

Perez has relocated two of the residents, but they are without any of their belongings.

The other two residents are staying with family. The other apartments that were damaged by smoke will be cleaned.

Perez asks if anyone would like to donate any items or money to drop it off at the Hickman Manor Apartments.
