TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa authorities have charged one teenage suspect and may charge another in an attempted burglary from over the weekend.

The victim in the case, a 21-year-old man, fired shots at the would-be robbers when they tried to rob him at his home. It happened at an apartment in the 2200 block of 48th Street East around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, June 15.

The 21-year-old shot one of the suspects in the leg, but was also shot in the arm, according to Kip Hart with the Tuscaloosa Homicide Unit. All three ended up at the same hospital, DCH in Tuscaloosa, within minutes of each other after the attempted robbery.

One suspect, a 19-year-old unidentified male, came in to the hospital to be treated for his leg wound. He was driven to DCH in a private car by Milton Prentice, also 19.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old victim went to the DCH to be treated for the gunshot wound to his arm. He told officers that two black males had tried to rob him at his home and he shot at them.

While at the hospital, the two 19-year-olds gave police conflicting stories about the shooting, so officers brought Prentice into the Tuscaloosa Homicide office for questioning.

During his interview, officials say Prentice admitted to the attempted robbery. He told officers the would-be victim was armed with a handgun and shot his accomplice when they tried to force their way inside the home.

Prentice has been charged with second degree assault and first degree attempted burglary. He is being held in the Tuscaloosa County jail on a bond totaling $30,000.

The other 19-year-old suspect may also face charges in the case. He is in stable condition at DCH.

The victim's injury was not life-threatening.
