Flash flooding trapped drivers, washed out bridge

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Heavy rain showers in Cape Girardeau caused flash flooding in several streets.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Cape Girardeau and Scott counties until 1:15 p.m. Monday.

Cape Girardeau firefighters rescued as many as 10 people from stranded vehicles in flood waters Monday.

Crews responded mainly to the western part of the city. One person was rescued from drowning at the intersection of S. Kingshighway and Bloomfield Rd.

As many as many as 25 vehicles were observed in the water.

Ameren Missouri reported up to nearly 1,000 customers without power at one point Monday afternoon.

A woman survived an electric shock in Scott City after she rescued a cat from flood water in a basement of an apartment.

Flooding washed out a bridge on Forestdale & Gin Street in south Fulton, Tennessee. TDOT crews are evaluating bridges in the area Tuesday. NTDS has given out cleanup supplies to residents on Iron Street. There are lots of reports of water entering homes during Monday's storms, according to Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services.
