Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival to feature night show

Cape Air Fest 2013 is set to soar back into town very soon.

Airport Manager Bruce Loy says he's excited that the Cape Air Show is coming back to town after a two-year hiatus.

Loy says they had to take a couple of years off after the cost of a very well known and popular team, like the Blue Angels who made an appearance in 2010.

He says air show fans will have a lot to look forward to this year even without the Blue Angels who have been grounded by sequester cuts.

This year’s Air Festival features the Aerostar Aerobatic Team, Kent Pietsch & his Jelly Belly comedy act, Randy Ball in his Mig-17F jet fighter, Paul Stender's jet powered school bus, the USTA SmashZone Mobile Tour, followed by much, much more.

There will be activities all day on Saturday and a special night show on Friday.

"It's cool weather, you have the luxury of doing it in June or July its warmer but yet you're chances of rain are less but you still have to do it in the evening when it's cooler," Loy said. "And having an air show at night is typically a new experience for new people even if they go to a lot of air shows some of them have not been to a night show before."

Loy also is pretty excited about another new part of the Friday event. Pyrotechnics on the planes should light up the night sky.

The Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival will be June 28 and June 29. Visit for more information and tickets.
