Heat & humidity build to allow afternoon storms

Winds out of the southwest are bringing heat and moisture to the Upstate and Western NC through this week, giving us enough instability to build in showers and thunderstorms through the afternoons.  Sunday was a great example of this, as the early half of the day stayed dry, and then through the afternoon the clouds began to "fluff up" and darken with rain, with storms moving in later in the day.  Expect a very similar day today, with temperatures rising into the lower 80s for the mountains, and mid 80s for the Upstate.  These storms have a tendency to move across our counties slowly, so in any given storm, expect downpours to create brief ponding on the roadways, as well as some minor flooding concerns.  Clouds to ground lightning is also expected, along with brief gusty winds.  Overnight, a few storms could continue to move through the area, though once the sun sets the heating element is removed and prohibits any significant storms from forming.
