CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

While we're in for a slight cool off this weekend, there are a lot of families in need of a little help to keep their homes cool.

According to the Salvation Army, hundreds of people in our area need some relief from the heat.

So, the Salvation Army is collecting fans to help those in need.

"We're calling on the community to help other people beat the heat in this hot summer temperature down here in southern missouri that we as a new couple to the area are getting used to as well, we're hoping that others in the community will help us help others to beat the heat. throughout the summer we are expecting over 300 people by the end of the summer that will need fans and we don't have any fans right now," said Captains Ronnie and Brigette Amick with the Salvation Army.

If you'd like to donate fans or money to buy fans, you can do that at the salvation army building on Good Hope in Cape Girardeau.

They're open Monday through Friday from 9 to 4.
