JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Hundreds of vehicles lined up to unload electronics and other recyclables Saturday at the Jackson Recycling Center.

Hundreds of TVs, computers, microwaves and a wide variety of other recyclables filled the storage building.

"Every year, almost every week they come out with new electronics. so their old electronics have to go somewhere and it's not good to put it in the landfill, because it's just going to stay there," said Forrest Krieg, coordinator of the event.

With newer and faster electronic products entering the market daily, consumers quickly replace older models. As a result, electronics have become one of the fastest growing waste streams.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that more than 2 million tons of computers and other electronics are disposed of each year.

Items were packed up on Saturday and shipped away to be broken down and recycled.
