UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The state's attorney in Union County says an Anna woman is facing kidnapping and armed robbery charges.

According to Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds, Karen Sue Nichols (a.k.a.) Karen S. Casper, 44, of rural Anna was arrested by Union County deputies on Friday evening in connection to an ongoing kidnapping investigation.

The newborn child was reported kidnapped in rural Union County sometime on Friday evening, according to the state's attorney.

Edmonds says the child was taken into protective custody at the time of the arrest and has since been reunited with his mother.

Nichols is being held on one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of armed robbery, both class X felonies. She was taken to the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro on $500,000 bond.

Edmonds says formal charges will be filed Monday morning.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police and Union County State’s Attorney’s Office continue to investigate.
