JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Police worked a deadly motorcycle crash on Interstate-57 in Jefferson County.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Saturday.

ISP says both northbound I-57 lanes were shut down at the 96.5 mile marker. The sheriff's office says traffic was backed up. Lanes were back open around 6 p.m.

According to Illinois State Police, Michael Jordan of O'Fallon, Illinois was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County. As he left a construction zone, the motorcycle hit a series of potholes and Jordan lost control of the bike. Both Jordan and his passenger Pamela Schulter, also of O'Fallon, IL were thrown from the motorcycle.

Jordan hit a guardrail, and emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

Crews took Schulter to a hospital in Mt. Vernon. She's in critical but stable condition.

Authorities said both riders were wearing helmets.
