POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

A team of 45 people in Poplar Bluff is trying to lose 1,700 pounds in eight weeks.

If they reach their goal, their names will be in the Guinness Book of Records for weight loss.

So far, the team has lost 585 pounds and they're only two weeks into the program.

Their trainer says it's all about staying motivated, which can lead to a major life-change.

"Just for self-confidence more than anything," said Bart Smith, a personal trainer. "When you start getting unhealthy, it's easy to get into that rut. When you get caught in that rut and get caught in a lifestyle, it's so easy to get hung in it. But when people get in here, and even if they're not losing weight, but when they come into the gym and start exercising properly, eating better, you feel so much better."

The team members say it's a long road but they're not quitting until they reach the goal.
