Illinois swimmer drowns in Current River

CARTER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The Carter County coroner says a man drowned in the Current River on Saturday.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. two miles north of the US 60 bridge.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says Lucas E. Melher of Huntsville, Illinois was floating in the river, became tangled in branch and was unable to get out of the water.

Coroner Eric McSpadden says the man was in his 20s.
