ALTO PASS, IL (KFVS) -

Pet lovers came out to an event Sunday to raise money for area animal shelters.

It was the very first Dawg Daze of Summer Super Shelter Spectacular at Alto Vineyards.

The goal was to let people know about all the benefits of animal rescue organizations and promote their programs and services.

Live music, food, local artists, and even animal services like dog grooming made a fun afternoon for everyone.

One of the event organizers says what it is really all about.

"The biggest part of the entire event, the main point is to get the word out about these shelters and about how they are struggling," said Jillian Miller, event organizer. "The government funding has not been coming through, you know, for any organization like this."

People at the event could also enter to win items like gift baskets at the live auction.

Miller says the event wouldn't have been possible without all the support from sponsors and volunteers. She says some of the major sponsors were Alto Vineyards, Neighborhood Co-op, Thomas Publishing, and Shawnee Shuttles.
