Piedmont fire chief, 2 others resign amid investigation

PIEDMONT, MO (KFVS) -

A fire chief and two fire department members have resigned amid a city investigation into the Rural District Fire Department in Piedmont.

Piedmont Mayor Bill Kirkpatrick says the city is investigating claims that Rural District Fire Department Chief Josh Allen and other members of the department took a fire department vehicle on a personal trip.

District Fire Board Member Shane Babb says two additional fire department members resigned from the rural district fire department at a meeting Monday night. Allen resigned over the weekend.

Board Member Mike Nelson says safety is still the top priority. 

"There's not going to be any distribution of services," Nelson said. "We are working hard to make sure that we've got an interim chief and we've got a meeting set up next Monday night to interview for a permanent chief for the district. So, I want to assure everybody that services are intact." 

The district fire board named an interim chief at Monday's meeting.

Mayor Kirkpartrick says he will recommend Shane Babb as interim chief at the city council meeting on Tuesday.

Seth Deck is the current interim Chief for Rural Fire Department in Piedmont.

The city and rural fire department share the same fire house.

The board hopes to name a permanent chief at a meeting next Monday.

City officials are still investigating the alleged incident from the weekend.

This department also responds to City of Piedmont calls.

Board members stress that both the city of Piedmont and the Rural District will still respond to calls.
