MT. CHARLESON (FOX5) -

A wildfire that sparked Monday in the Carpenter Canyon area of the Spring Mountains, west of the Las Vegas Valley, grew to 1,100 acres by Wednesday.

Hillerie Patton, spokesperson for the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, said about 120 firefighters, including a hotshot crew, and three helicopters are battling the wildfire on the Pahrump side of Mount Charleston.

Patton said lightning started the blaze on Monday, but the small fire quickly spread.

Dozens of FOX5 viewers have sent in pictures of the large plume of smoke that can be seen for miles.

The fire was not contained as of Wednesday morning, Patton said.

The American Red Cross is readying shelter supplies and volunteers for Pahrump as a precautionary measure.

Patton said no evacuations are planned at this time. The fire, though, has forced Trout Canyon at Highway 160 to close, according to officials.
