JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Fourth of July Holiday is upon us and that means roadways and waterways here in the Heartland are going to be busy.

Police are going to be out in force too.

"We're going to mainly be concentrating on impaired drivers, drivers not wearing seatbelts and speeders," said Corporal Mark Wilson with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. "We're also going to be out at Lake Kinkaid this weekend. We'll be out there with paramedics from Jackson County Ambulance Service. And we'll be out there with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources again looking for impaired drivers, boaters being unruly and speeding on the water. The paramedics will be there if we have a medical call while we're out there."

Police are also going to be on the look out for anyone shooting off fireworks, which are illegal in Illinois.

"There are dangers with fireworks especially children that may be playing with fireworks."

The beefed up patrols will begin on Wednesday and run throughout the 4th of July weekend.

"We have a lot of people off work, a lot of people are out enjoying the holiday having a lot of fun on area lakes, or in their backyards. We don't condemn people from going out and having fun. Just be responsible about it and be very careful," Wilson said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ranks the 4th of July holiday, as the deadliest holiday for alcohol related fatalities.
