Body found on Cedar Lake trail

POMONA, IL (KFVS) -

Mountain bikers found a body, authorities believe to be a missing person.

Jackson County Sheriff's Department got a report of a possible missing person on Friday evening around 6:00pm in the area of the Cedar Lake boat launch in Pamona, Illinois.

The sheriff's office received information that a 69-year-old had gone to the area to go trail maintenance and had yet to return home. 

Jackson County Sheriff's deputies, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Officers, and Murphysboro/Pamona/Somerset Township firemen responded to the area.

They located the victim's car near the trail head off of Boat Dock Road. 

Just before the search for the missing adult began, the sheriff's department got a report of mountain bikers on the trail had located a deceased person. 

Based on the mountain bikers description, the deceased person was wearing the same clothing that was reported to the sheriff's office earlier.

Authorities hiked into the woods and found the missing man lying in the trail.

Authorities are not releasing the victim's name at this time.
