MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Deputies say a southern Illinois man faces a number of charges after a high-speed chase overnight in western Kentucky.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, Esmeraldo Morales-Carmona, 21, of Cobden, Illinois, was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and without a driver's license.

The vehicle that Mr. Morales-Carmona was driving was not registered.

Morales-Carmona was charged with speeding 26 mph or more over speed limit, fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (motor vehicle), operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs / alcohol (aggravated circumstances ) 1st offence, reckless driving, no operator's license, no registration plates /receipt.

It all began shortly after midnight when deputies saw a Silver Ford F-150 SVT Lightning traveling southbound on Lone Oak Road at an extremely high rate of speed.

Deputies say they were able to catch up with the truck on US 45 and tried to make a traffic stop. The driver of the truck, Morales-Carmona, then led deputies on a short high-speed pursuit at over 110 miles per hour, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies pursued the vehicle into Graves County where the vehicle's transmission failed. The pursuit ended on US 45 just in front of the Kentucky State Police Mayfield post.

Morales-Carmona was taken to the McCracken County Jail.

McCracken County Deputies were assisted by the Kentucky State Police and the Graves County Sheriff's Office.
