PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

It's a big day for folks in McCracken County. School and city leaders are cutting the ribbon at the new McCracken County High School.

That new school combines Reidland, Lone Oak, and Heath High Schools into one.

"The board had a vision of being able to provide opportunities to our kids that they've really never had in McCracken County, so why give it to one group of kids or another group of kids," said Principal Ceglinski. "Give it to everyone. This building is a result of that vision, for all of our kids to have access to a facility like this and to the programs that are offered here."

The new high school principal expects 1,900 students in the new school.

"I have cold chills right now just thinking about it," said Principal Ceglinski. "There's been so much work in the past year to get this building ready for students, ready for teachers. Teachers starting coming in yesterday doing curriculum work, and things like that. Today is really a marker for us, where it becomes less about touring the building, and getting ready for kids being in here. Its work that goes into them getting ready for their future."

Students start school there on August 9.

"I just want them to be able to know this was done for them there's nothing on our part, added Principal Ceglinski. "This school building was not built for adults, it was built for kids.  I hope when they come in here and they see some of the nice features down to the details of the desk and the thought that was put into that that. This place is for kids and is for their future."

There is an open house scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the public.
