CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A number of different fire departments were on the scene of a massive fire in Cape Girardeau County Thursday night. The state Fire Marshal was out investigating on Friday.

The fire was at a home on County Road 651. Fire crews say the house was fully engulfed when they arrived.

Chief Dwayne Kirchhoff with the East County Fire Protection District says no one was injured and the house is considered a total loss.

He says fire fighters battling the fire got out of the house after an air horn was sounded, and the roof collapsed a few minutes later.

The home had a vaulted ceiling and a balloon constructed frame.

Firefighters were drawing water from a nearby pond to help battle the fire.

According to the crews, the pond allowed them to pump 2,500 gallons of water up to the house, helping them put it out.

The owner was not home at time of the fire.
