Storage unit thefts hit Kennett

Posted: Updated:

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - According to the Kennett Police Department, several storage units have been broken into in Dunklin County.

KPD have made some arrests but believe there are more suspects.

Lt. Tim Trowbridge said the trouble with these sort of break in's is victims don't know they've been a target until after they've made a visit to store something else.

"People don't visit those on a daily basis so we're finding it difficult for us to find these in a timely manner," said Lt. Trowbridge.

In the last few weeks, more of these storage renters are finding out they have been a victim.

He suggests checking up on a storage unit more than just when you need to get into it.

"Check your storage facility often," said Lt. Trowbridge. "Just drive by and make sure it's your padlock on the door."

Many of these storage facilities don't have a security system. For a thief, it instantly becomes an easy target.

"They'll pick a storage facility place, business or a residence that doesn't have a security system and they'll target those businesses," said Lt. Trowbridge.

The police department can't promise that the storage facilities will invest in security cameras but they can assure that they will be keeping an extra eye out around those units from now on.

"We're getting more and more law enforcement that are doing the extra patrols at the storage facilities and watching them more closely," said Lt. Trowbridge.

The investigation is still ongoing. If you have any information please call Kennett Police Department at (573) 888-5337.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
