Bright lights of Hollywood movie may be headed to Cape Girardeau

Cape Girardeau could soon see stars!

"Gone Girl" is being considered to be filmed in Cape Girardeau, according to Chuck Martin with Cape Girardeau Visitors Bureau. Gillian Flynn wrote "Gone Girl" and three other books.

"We certainly would be comfortable in saying if the film does come here based upon the scouting that has taken place, there will certainly be multiple locations within the community that will be filmed," Martin said.

David Fincher who directed "Fight Club," starring Missouri native Brad Pitt, is scheduled to direct the film.

Ben Affleck is in negotiations to be the lead role in the planned Twentieth Century Fox film.

Martin says it is a business, and there won't be much of an opportunity for people to watch filming, but says there may be some roles as extras available.

Mayor Harry Rediger says, from the city side of things, there was no hesitation in pursing the location of the film.

"To me from what I know, with 20th century fox and with it being a very strong best selling book, this is will have an additional economic impact," Mayor Rediger said.

He says Hannibal and St. Louis have also been looked at as possible locations.

This would be the second movie filmed in Cape Girardeau. 'Kill Shot' filmed in Cape Girardeau made $750,000, according to the Missouri Film Commission.

Rediger says he is excited about the possible economic impact to the community.

A decision will be made soon on the exact location.
