Shooting suspect fights extradition to Missouri

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A July 4 Charleston shooting suspect who fled to North Carolina is fighting extradition back to Missouri.

Mark Mowery is a suspect in the shooting of a 39-year-old Charleston man and his 10-year-old son.According to Charleston DPS, on Monday, an extradition hearing was held for Mark Mowery in Cumberland County North Carolina. 

Mowery reportedly declined to waive extradition and return to Missouri. 

DPS Director Robert Hearnes says a governor’s warrant will now be sought to force the return of Mowery so he can face charges of assault 1st degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.  

However, the process can take up to three months. 

Additional charges are pending.
