Police: Inmate used fake ID, escaped from jail

Posted: Updated:

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Police say an inmate booked into jail under a false name later climbed a fence to escape from custody.

Christian County Jailer Brad Boyd says Luis Raul Dechoudens Espinal climbed up a basketball goal in the jail's courtyard to gain access to a ledge. From there, he reached a chain link fence surrounding the courtyard and squeezed through a hole to make his escape.

Boyd told The Kentucky New Era it is the first escape since the jail opened in 1994.

Jailers initially booked Dechoudens as 20-year-old Jose Feliciano of Hopkinsville. Jailers discovered the ruse with the name after Clarksville, Tenn., police received a tip and matched Dechoudens' photo to Feliciano.

Officers in Kentucky and Tennessee are searching for Dechoudens.
