CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The federal agency responsible for Medicare recently announced plans to cut funding for dialysis treatments.

That cut is expected to be about  $970 million.

If these cuts take affect, clinical manager Sondra Britton at Fresenius Medical Care said her place is going to be directly affected. They may have to cut back on hours, cut staff or worse case close their doors.

"As services and benefits are being cut, many clinics especially in rural areas may not be able to keep their doors open," Britton said.

Britton said the focus right now is making people aware of these changes and hope something is done to prevent it from happening.
