CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Air conditioning and hot ovens don't mix. That's why summer is the cruelest season for bakers. This week's Heartland Cook, Amber Kuehn of Jackson, Missouri has a solution! Amber's Crock-pot Triple Chocolate Mess will satisfy your summer sweet-tooth without heating up the kitchen too much on these hot days.

Ingredients:

  • 1 18.5 oz. package chocolate cake mix
  • 1 4 oz. package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 6 oz. bag chocolate chips
  • 1 pint sour cream

Directions:

First, spray the crock pot with non-stick cooking spray.

In a separate bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, instant chocolate pudding mix, oil, water, eggs, chocolate chips, and sour cream and pour into crock pot.

Cook on low for 4 - 6 hours. Do not lift the lid or it will take longer to cook. You'll know your hot mess is done cooking when the center sets and is no longer liquid.

Serve with ice cream or cool whip.

Amber's tip: If you like dark chocolate or chocolate fudge, you can use a devil's food cake mix with chocolate fudge pudding and/or dark chocolate chips. It makes for a richer and not-so-sweet chocolate mess!

If you have a recipe you'd like to show off, we want to hear from you! Send Carly an e-mail. You share the recipe and we'll do the cooking!
