PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

Arizona authorities have arrested a New York man accused of making threats on Twitter against two nationally known TV anchors who infuriated him with their coverage of the Jodi Arias trial.

David Lee Simpson, 48, of Bath, NY, was infatuated with Arias and became upset by the two female anchors' comments, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said at a news briefing on Monday.

Arpaio declined to name the two anchors because he said Turner Broadcasting asked his agency not to publicly identify the victims.

Still, he said one of them works out of Atlanta and the other out of New York.

Simpson is charged with three counts of computer tampering and two counts of stalking. Simpson has waived extradition and will be brought to the Maricopa County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.

The sheriff said the investigation took five weeks.

Arpaio said among Simpson's tweets about the Arias trial were threats to strap the commentators to a "tree naked and leave them to suffer all night" and then "slit their throats."

Sheriff's detectives said Simpson quit his job last week as a front desk employee in an auto repair shop in Bath. He allegedly told his employers that he was leaving town.

His car was stopped by local police as he was heading south, Arpaio said. During a search of Simpson's vehicle, officers said they found several guns, shotgun ammunition, handcuffs, zip-ties, binoculars, a knife and a police radio. Detectives said they also found a receipt to a recently purchased shotgun. The shotgun has not been located.

Authorities said they also discovered newspaper clippings relating to the Newtown, CT, school massacre, and the shootings of four firemen in Webster, NY, who were responding to a fire call.

Officers searching the vehicle said they uncovered a print-out from a local Arizona news website about the story of a woman arrested by Maricopa County sheriff's deputies on charges of bestiality.
