Poplar Bluff, MO -

Poplar Bluff police have a warning for people, if you get a text from a Social Security Benefits company don't believe it.

Investigators say they've received several complaints from people who received text messages encouraging them to call a company called Direct Express at a specific number.

Officers say when the people call the number, they're asked to provide their benefit card number, their date of birth and their social security number.

Police say Direct Express customer service assured the victims the company did not and would not contact them for their information.

The company says anyone who believes they have fallen victim to the scam are encouraged to call Direct Express immediately.   If they've lost money, they should call police and file a complaint.
