PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Authorities have confirmed to us that a man was shot by police off 16th Street behind Trinity United Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff Heath Taylor told News Leader 9's Curtis McCloud that Phenix City police got a call shortly after 4 p.m. about shots being fired at an apartment at River View homes.

Police arrived at the home and one of the subjects, Robert Lorenzo Anderson, jumped out of a window of the apartment and attempted to flee the scene. Anderson then started firing on the police officers.

Police returned fire and Anderson was struck in the leg. He has since been taken to the Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

Anderson has outstanding warrants for robbery in Georgia, and he will now face attempted murder charges in Alabama.

The Russell County Sheriff's department is investigating along with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
