CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau police are investigating an armed robbery where the suspect reportedly displayed a gun and demanded money from the victim on Thursday.

According to police, about 10 a.m. Thursday an officer responded to a residential alarm in the 400 block of South Frederick.

When he got on the scene, the officer saw a black male walking toward where he was parking his patrol car. The male suspect was described by police as being in his mid 20's, approximately 6’ tall, 160-180 pounds, wearing a black t-shirt and black pants.

As the officer got out of his car, the suspect ran.

A man standing near the home yelled for the officer, and said the suspect had just robbed him. The victim was the owner of the vacant home.

The officer ran after the suspect but was unable to catch him.

The victim told police that he was working on the property when the suspect approached him, displayed a handgun and demanded his wallet.

The suspect made off with the victim’s wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash and personal items.

The property owner told police he has accidentally set off the home's alarm.
