GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

Gadsden police have arrested a man accused of stealing an English bulldog, then selling it back unknowingly to the dog's rightful owner.

The bulldog was reportedly stolen from a home on Highway 77 near Attalla on July 16.

After filing a police report, the dog's rightful owner noticed an ad and photo of an English Bulldog on Craigslist. The ad said the seller was from Gadsden.

The owner agreed to buy the dog for $85 from the seller Bradley Bowlin. The owner said his English bulldog is actually worth around $800.

After buying his dog back, the owner filed another report with the Gadsden Police Department.

Police charged Bradley Mark Bowlin, 25, with one count of second degree theft of property.

Bowlin was held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond and later released.
