HICKMAN, KY (KFVS) -

A man is returning to Kentucky to face attempted murder charges following a shootout with police earlier this month.

On July 7, Fulton Police responded to a call about shots fired at the Royal Ridge Apartment complex.

Investigators say when they arrived 56-year-old Keith Dildine came out of one of the apartments with a handgun and shot at police.

A Kentucky State trooper returned fire; hitting Dildine several times.

Dildine was transported to the Regional Medical Center in Fulton, and later airlifted to a hospital in Memphis. Dildine was released from the hospital last week, and taken into custody by Memphis Police, before being turned over to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.

Friday, Dildine was extradited to Kentucky to face two counts of attempted murder of a police officer. He is currently being housed at the Fulton County Detention Center.
