CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

It seems someone has stolen copper from a Southeast Missouri church for the second time this summer.

Within the last few months, someone has taken copper from the air conditioning unit at Soulful Harvest Ministries on Good Hope Street.

Pastor Scott Johnson says they recently noticed someone had taken the copper after realizing no cold air was coming out of the vent.

"It can't be worth maybe a couple dollars and it ends up affecting the community that comes here," said Johnson.

Johnson also says that disabled people come to the church to stay cool. And, every Sunday, people pack the church for relief from the heat.

The pastor says he has replaced the copper line and built a barricade around the air conditioner.

"If they would steal from a church, they will probably steal from a home too," said Johnson.

He hopes people will keep their eyes open so something like this won't happen to them.
