CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Families can save on back-to-school shopping Aug. 2-4.

The owner of Kid Stop in Cape Girardeau says shopping tax-free is a big help when purchasing school uniforms for your student.

"With raising children nowadays everything is so expensive and everybody that has come in and has looked at the uniforms, I tell them about the no-tax weekend and they say, ‘oh ok then we will just wait,’" Kim Powers said.

Powers said if you’re purchasing a week’s worth of clothing for your three children, shopping tax-free could save you up to $50.

Tax-free weekend is also helping people save on classroom supplies.

For two outfits, a backpack, tennis shoes, and everything on the Jackson Junior High School classroom supply list, the bill was more than $170. However, without taxes, the bill is around $150.

This is the first time in several years Cape Girardeau has participated in the tax-free weekend. Some other Heartland cities are not participating. See that list here.
