Friday kicks off Missouri sales tax holiday

The Missouri sales tax holiday kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday (August 2-4).

Parents and caregivers can get a break by not paying sales tax on most items of clothing, school supplies, computer software worth less than $350, and most  personal computers and computer devices.  

The sales tax holiday is not only meant to give moms and dads a break, but also to help keep Missouri shoppers spending money at Missouri stores.  

Lt. Governor Peter Kinder says a majority of Missouri's population lives near a state border and the sales tax break is an incentive for shoppers to stay close to home as well as attract shoppers from neighboring states.

Many local governments also suspend local sales taxes during the sales tax holiday, but some do not.  This is a list of the Missouri counties that will not participate in the 2013 sales tax holiday:

  • Bloomfield 
  • Doniphan 
  • Ellsinore 
  • Farmington 
  • Hayti 
  • Ironton 
  • Kennett 
  • Malden 
  • Marble Hill 
  • Naylor 
  • New Madrid 
  • Poplar Bluff 
  • Qulin 
  • Ste Genevieve 

This is a list of counties that will not participate in the 2013 sales tax holiday.

  • Bollinger 
  • Iron 
  • Reynolds 
  • St. Francois 
  • Ste Genevieve 
  • Stoddard
