SMYRNA, TN (WSMV) -

Residents in Smyrna made their voices heard Tuesday night about a new housing development that could turn a quiet little road into a busy thoroughfare.

The measure to annex and develop 70 acres off Inez Drive was passed unanimously by the Smyrna Town Council.

The council chambers were full of a lot of neighbors against the development.

Residents in the area said there's no room for a new development.

"It's just a tiny little two-lane road. We have less than 100 houses back here, and that's what the road was made for," said concerned resident Kathy Plummer. "It's not beefed up to have big construction equipment going up and down it. It's just made for backwoods little country areas."

Traffic flow is expected to increase by 500 percent, and more than 200 homes will be built in the area.
