The regular high school football season kicks off Friday, August 30 for teams in Missouri and southern Illinois.
One of the marquee match ups will take place at Charleston High School.
The Blue Jays will host long time rival Sikeston.
Both of these squads figure to put a talented team on the field and both are busy at work to get the season started.
"We're a work in progress, and we are going to be for a while," said Sikeston Head Coach Kent Gibbs. "We graduated a lot. We have some kids that are capable of stepping in and doing some things for us. It is the third day of practice, fourth day of practice, like everybody else, we've got a long way to go."
"We've been pleased with the effort of the kids," said Charleston Head Coach Brett Blackman. "The weather has been good for us, so we've been able to keep our practices going at a high rate of speed and keep everything going on. And, we've been pleased with our offensive installs and our defensive installs so far."
