Back to School for Some Districts: Along with some NC mountain counties, Spartanburg, Anderson, Laurens and Union counties all went back to school for the beginning of the fall semester. It was a tough morning to get out the door in several areas as moderate to heavy rain fell in addition to cool temperatures.
If your plans take you back to pick up students this afternoon, expect slightly warmer conditions as temperatures reach the upper 70s and low 80s for Upstate towns with middle 70s in many Western NC towns. Also, everyone will have a 50%-60% chance of scattered rain this afternoon and evening.
Ridging, Drying Coming Back: This may be a real shot in the dark or FAT CHANCE of actually coming true since we have dealt with endless rain this summer , but it does look like an upper-level ridge will regain control of our weather pattern by Thursday and Friday offering more sunshine and much less chance for rain.
Still, humidity WILL be high all week which will equal scattered storm development later this week even if we do have much more sunshine than in recent days. An upper-level heat ridge means that widespread storms do not look as likely heading into the upcoming weekend. We'll see what happens as it will take a "see it to believe it" type of mindset :).
