High school football is here, but only in a small dose.
There are eleven games featuring south Georgia squads this week, and while those teams play for real, many others are still tuning up.
The Westover Patriots concluded their preseason scrimmages Wednesday night with a 41-6 scrimmage victory over Stewart County.
Head coach Octavia Jones says his team will use the game to evaluate many of the position battles still looming.
"It was very important for us to get as many people as possible in. We want to go ahead and set our depth charts going into the season next week, so we can kind of see who's going to contribute to the team," says Jones. "We'll go back and evaluate the film this weekend, and we should have everything set on Monday ready to rock and roll for the first week of the season."
The Patriots will need to be ready to rock and roll right out of the gate.
Westover opens the 2013 season with three straight road games, the first of which is August 30 at Tift County.
