1 hurt after fire rips through duplex

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

One person is hurt after a fire ripped through a duplex early Saturday morning.

According to East Cape County Fire Chief Dwayne Kirchoff, the fire started around 3 a.m. in a duplex on Tomahawk Lane, near West Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau. 

Fire crews arrived on the scene where the house was nearly fully engulfed with flames.

The duplex is considered a total loss. Flames scorched the inside of the home ruining everything, and even caving in a portion of the roof.

East Cape Fire Department put out the fire with mutual aid from Fruitland and Cape Girardeau Fire Departments.

The cause is under investigation.
