Few PM Storms & Tropics Update

Back to Humid:  After a temporary break (over the weekend and into Monday) from soupy, humid conditions, summer humidity has returned.  In addition to the humidity, seasonal temperatures have also been common around the area this afternoon as many towns have reached the upper 80s in the Upstate and low-middle 80s in Western NC.

Due to an upper-level flow from north to south and ample humidity, a few afternoon storms will likely develop, but rain will not be widespread.  Any storm that flares up this afternoon and/or evening will produce heavy rain and vivid lightning.  A severe storm can't be ruled out.  Fortunately, however, wind damage won't be a big concern.

TropicsThe one thing we sure DO NOT need this summer is a land-falling tropical system capable of delivering a large amount of rain over our region

Good news in that the tropical Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico remain very quiet in terms of organization of tropical waves.

Since it is prime time for systems to organize, we'll keep a close eye on things.  Hopefully, there won't be much to talk about as the calendar turns into September.
