PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A former Paducah resident has been charged with sexually abusing a minor in late 2011.

Christopher Goens, 28, of Daphne, Alabama, was charged with first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse.

According to Paducah police, Goens told police on November 2011 that he had taken several minors with him to a location off Joe Clifton Drive to buy drugs.

Goens went on to tell police he heard the minors screaming and returned to find a black man assaulting one of the minors. He said a second man attacked him, but he fought with the two men and they eventually fled.

A victim confirmed to police that they had been assaulted, and that victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators say they were skeptical of Goens' story from the beginning.

On April 30, 2013, police received DNA results from evidence submitted immediately after the crime. Police say the results confirm that Goens was the person behind assault.

After the DNA results were received, Detective learned that Goens was living in Alabama.

Paducah police contacted authorities there and requested they arrest Goens on an outstanding warrant charging him with possession of cocaine, stemming from evidence collected the night of the attack.

Goens was taken into custody on May 22 by authorities in Alabama.

Police say Goens fought extradition on the cocaine possession charge, so Paducah police detectives got a Governor's warrant to bring him back to Paducah.

Goens was returned to Paducah on Tuesday and was re-interviewed by detectives.

Police say Goens stuck to his original story, in spite of being informed of the DNA evidence.
