Talk of military action in Syria hits close to home with Anna family

ANNA, IL (KFVS) -

The U.S. Senate is set to begin debates over military action in Syria next week.

This comes after an alleged chemical strike on its own people left over 1,000 dead. Heartland families with loved ones in the military are on edge, keeping a close eye on what happens next.

The talk of military action in Syria hits even closer to home with families with service members overseas.

They say a military attack would mean more possible danger for those who wear the uniform.

Andrea Boomer lives in Anna, Illinois. Her son, Zac, is currently stationed at an Air Force base in Turkey, which borders Syria to the north.

She says in the three weeks he's been there, her worry has been getting worse as the country waits for an answer from Congress.

Boomer's husband and another son were also in the military, and she says service members must uphold their oath, no matter what.

"We're all military and there are a lot of things that we don't agree with but you have to accept the fact that you can't say no," said Boomer. "You just accept it and you have to do what you have to do. And, we do. But it's very scary."

Boomer says for her, it is not an issue of whether or not she agrees with military action in Syria.

She says it is a matter of supporting her son through whatever happens.

"It's very scary with him over there, as close as he is to everything," said Boomer. "We get up every day and say a prayer that he's going to be safe. We are proud of him. And we are proud of the fact that he took that oath and is going to uphold it."

She will support him no matter what, but she'll still do what moms do.

"More worry," said Boomer. "Not that I don't worry now, but more worry that he'll be in more harm's way."
