WHITE CO., IL (WFIE) -

Many in White County are grieving the loss of 18-year-old Emilie Jo Turrentine.

Her body was recovered from Rend Lake after she apparently drowned while swimming with friends on Monday.

It has been an emotional past few days throughout White County. Those who knew Emilie said she was a leader in the community and her absence has been felt throughout.

They said she was a leader in the community and was very active at school. She played softball and volleyball, ran track, and was a cheerleader.

Emilie was also enrolled in college level courses at Southeastern Illinois Community College.

Friends said when Emilie wasn't studying and competing as a top athlete, she was working at a job she loved at Pizza Hut. Co-workers said Emilie had only been a server for about two months, but they loved her positive attitude and commitment to the job.

Team member Lisa Burnett considered Emilie to be a part of their family.

"Sweet, sweet person. She was always real friendly, very bubbly silly, very silly girl. You never knew what she was going to say or do. She was just a down to earth teenager. She was just a very sweet girl. Everybody is just so heartbroken," Burnett said.

Visitation for Emilie will be held on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at receiving in God Ministry in Carmi. The funeral is at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning followed by burial at Kingdom Cemetery. All of the services are open to the public.

The football game at Eldorado has been moved back until 7:30 p.m. to accommodate those going to the visitation.
