LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A district investigation has been launched into an alleged physical confrontation between an East Texas coach and a student during halftime of a football game. According to a tip from a KLTV viewer, a Pine Tree coach allegedly roughly handled a student at a Friday night football game.

The alleged incident happened at Pine Tree stadium Friday night, involving a member of the Pine Tree coaching staff. The tipster says after the game there was a verbally violent incident in which Coach Fitzhenry began to curse his staff repeatedly. The district will not confirm or deny that any staff member may face charges.

"Because this is a personnel issue, the district is obligated, legally and ethically, not to provide details," says Pine Tree ISD spokesperson Vickie Echols.

The district initially said reports of Head Coach Derek Fitzhenry being suspended were not released by any one at Pine Tree ISD.

"I understand the questions, but what I can say is that the district is looking into the issues and will address them at the next school board meeting," said Vicki Echols.

Late today the district said no decisions have been made regarding the status of coach Derek Fitzhenry. Pursuant to board policy at this time, he has been placed on administrative leave. The details of what happened are expected to be taken up in the next Pine Tree school board meeting on Monday the 9th.
