Police: No charges filed in SUV hit-and-run with bicyclist

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

Paducah police say they interviewed the woman who was driving an SUV that hit a bicyclist at 13th and Broadway on August 27.

The bicyclist had told police he was riding on Broadway and crossing 13th Street when he was hit by a white or off-white SUV, and dragged by the vehicle.

The driver also told police he asked the driver for help, and the driver replied, "No."

The driver told another version of the story to police.

A woman contacted the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office two days after the wreck and met with a police officer on Aug. 30.

The 83-year-old woman told police she was driving south on North 13th Street, and had a green light as she was turning left onto Broadway, when a bicycle rode into her path.

She then told police she stopped, and the bicyclist said he was okay. She said the bicyclist asked if the driver had a cell phone, and she replied, “No.”

The woman told police the bicyclist picked up his bike and left. She said she did not know what to do because he was leaving. The driver left the area and continued to church.

The bicyclist did leave the scene, and approached a home on Jefferson Street, telling the resident he had been hit by a car and thought his wrist was hurt. The resident then contacted police.

Police say after consultation with the McCracken County attorney’s office this week, no charges have been filed.
