PUTNAM COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A detective says the northwest Ohio teen accused of killing two brothers lied about what happened.

According to The Lima News, Putnam County Sheriff Det. Roy Sargent says Michael Fay, 17, told two different stories before admitting to fabricating them. However, Fay's attorney, Bill Kluge, says investigators used coercive tactics to get the statements and filed a motion to throw them out of the case.

"He proceeded to provide a different fabricated version of events and stated that men with guns came to the trailer, began shooting and that he ran out uncertain of what thereafter occurred," Assistant Putnam County Prosecutor Todd Schroeder wrote in court records.

Fay has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder in the May 9 killings of 14-year-old Blaine Romes and his 17-year-old brother, Blake, following an Amber Alert in Putnam County.

Back in July, a judge ruled that Fay will be tried as an adult, after reviewing results of a competency exam.

The teen remains in jail on a $5 million bond.

Although murder charges could bring the death penalty for an adult, Fay's age at the time of the alleged crimes means the maximum penalty he could face is life in prison without the possibility of parole.
