OLMSTED, IL (KFVS) -

A southern Illinois man escaped his home Friday night after it caught fire. The home on Highway 37 north of Olmsted, Illinois is a total loss.

John Harp says he was sleeping in his bed last night and was awakened by a fire alarm. He quickly got out as the fire was burning through the back portion of his home.

Harp has bronchitis, and says he lost everything in the fire including his new medication and breathing machine.

Harp lived in the home with his son and dog.

Olmsted Fire Department battled the fire. Olmsted Fire Chief David Sharp says it is still undetermined on what the cause of the fire is at this point, but it is under investigation.
